One of those mind-numbing choices that you have to face in Chamonix (apart from arguing where the best beer in town is or which club has the best atmosphere) - where to ride?

If the snow is thin, Chamonix . Aiguille du Midi or Grands Montets have the altitiude to always find snow. This serious off piste riding. If you're into tricks, check out some of the natural kickers at Le Brevent and La Flégère. To learn, the pistes of Le Tour and Les Houches are most accommodating. There's a halfpipe built at the Grands Montets and a natural one at Le Tour.

These are just guide lines. Each area has the potential for serious action as well as a useful learning environment.

For over 200 years the mountains above Chamonix have been the crucible of Alpine mountaineering. This deep cut valley, dominated by the flanks of the Mt Blanc Massif and the smaller companion range the Aiguilles Rouges,is the home to many of Europes finest and most difficult climbs. However Chamonix is not just about extremes. What makes this valley special is the incredible quality and choice of mountain routes at all levels of difficulty. Whatever your ability or fitness there is something for you.

Walk a snowy crest one foot in France and one foot in Italy or Switzerland. Watch the last rays of the sun paint rose the snow capped summits from the balcony of a mountain refuge. Climb pristine slopes of snow and ice surrounded by the most spectacular and highest peaks in Europe.
